Green roof and water butt subsidy in Haarlem (2026)
Through its Green Roofs and Water Butts Subsidy Scheme 2024–2026, the municipality of Haarlem contributes towards installing a green roof (from 20 m²) and a water butt. According to the scheme, applications can be made until 1 December 2026; check the current conditions on haarlem.nl.
How much is it?
According to the published scheme, the contribution is roughly €25 per m² of green roof (more for a biodiverse roof), up to a maximum per address. Amounts and conditions can change; always read the current text on the municipality’s website.
Why a green roof or water butt?
A green roof retains rainwater, keeps the house cooler in summer and supports insects. A water butt collects water to use in the garden later. Together they help against flooding during heavy downpours — a growing problem in paved-over town districts.
Combining with your garden
Out with the paving and in with the green works best in combination: a green roof on the shed or canopy, a water butt and less paving in the garden. We are happy to help with the design.
